Club Information

Club Information

This section brings together key information about how our club is run, including our constitution, details of any vacant committee positions, and a jargon buster with useful terms and definitions. Use the accordion below to explore each area.

We currently have two vacant positions – MEET COORDINATOR and STO COORDINATOR

The MEET COORDINATOR role will be a joint role, sharing responsibility for collating entries and organising the information for our club organised meets.

The role requires an organised person with good IT skills and time management.

Full training will be provided. Click HERE for a full role description.

The STO COORDINATOR role will be a job share. Coordinating Officials for both our own and external meets.

Full training will be provided.

Glossary and Acronyms

There is plenty of swimming terminology and jargon and we hope the following will help you to learn and understand this new “language”.

Swimming Strokes – BK = Backstroke; BR = Breaststroke; BF = Butterfly; FC = Front Crawl; FS = Freestyle (usually Front Crawl)

Individual Medley (IM) – The competitor swims all four strokes in the following order:  butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

Medley Relay – Four swimmers each swim a different stroke. The order is always backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.

DQ – disqualified

Personal Best (PB) – no matter their ability, each swimmer soon becomes passionate about beating their previous time for each event and stroke. The times are recorded at all fixtures and the Club keeps records of all the swimmers’ best times, see time records on the members login page. Swim England holds a database of all official times recorded at licensed Open Meets.

Long Course (LC) – Events held in a 50m pool.

Short Course (SC) – Events held in a 25m pool.

Open Meet – Event for unlimited number of clubs/individuals for improvement of PB times.   Open to swimmers aged 9 years and above.   Qualifying times are usually imposed.

Entry time – The time submitted by the Club for a swimmer being entered in a gala. If entries are made well in advance, the entry time may not be the swimmers current PB

Lower Qualification Time (LQT) – The slowest entry time for a particular event that the organisers of a meet will consider.
