As a child I had a single minded ambition to compete at the Olympic Games, unfortunately this was never to be realised, but a passion for swimming grew within me over the many years trying.

A former mechanical engineer with Rolls Royce Aero Engine Service, I made the decision to change career and pursue the role that would allow me to support others in achieving their ambitions.

Since 2000 and taking up post as lead coach for South Aberdeenshire Swimming (SAS) there have been countless amazing stories created, through the individual highs and lows that come with Elite competitive sport, I’ve learned the importance of ambition, effort and resilience and believe these are the personality traits that will help develop the whole person.

My principles of coaching are:

• To be athlete centered, process focused and coach driven.
• Every athlete and every journey is different, believe in the process.
• There is always great value in being able to learn from our mistakes.
• Winning is NOT just about being number one.
